Church Pastor and Evangelist – East London

Background

Latin Link is an international community with a calling to love and serve God and our neighbour. Most members of Latin Link work in Latin American countries; some work with Latin Americans in other parts of the world. Others go from Latin America to work in Europe and elsewhere.

Objective

As Church Pastor and Evangelist, you will be responsible for leading a church plant in East London, where there is a Latin American congregation. The church is relatively young and requires a minister who has experience of church planting and the needs of a newly formed congregation.



Main responsibilities

  • Lead the church and be responsible for the spiritual welfare of the congregation

  • Write, prepare and deliver sermons for Sunday services

  • Lead the teaching of mid-week Bible classes

  • Organise events to reach out to the local community

  • Counsel people in the church as and when required

  • Lead and support church ministry team

  • Instigate and lead meetings with church leaders of other churches in the area.


Person Specification


  • This position has a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to be a Christian. Accordingly, you will be an active Christian in full sympathy with Latin Link’s Statement of Faith (http://www.latinlink.org.uk/National-Sites/UK/Who-we-are/What-we-believe) and Mission Statement (set out at the end of this document) and able to work comfortably in an interdenominational environment.

  • You will be a self-starter, fluent in Spanish (preferably your mother tongue) and English

  • Ideally you will be Latin American and, therefore, have understanding of Latin American culture in order to empathise with and support Latin Americans living in the UK who are members of the congregation

  • You will have experience of, and be able to relate to church agencies and sending structures in Latin America.

  • You will have a desire to work in fellowship with leaders of other churches

  • You will be a servant-hearted leader with great compassion for people and a calling to evangelise.


Qualifications

  • Proven theological training.


Work Skills and Experience

Essential


  • Experience of church leadership and church planting in London to serve the Latin American community

  • Experience of leading a team

  • Well organised, able to effectively prioritise to meet deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Trustworthy, diplomatic and able to keep confidentiality.


Desirable

  • Experience of working with or for a charity or mission agency

  • Familiar with and enthusiastic about the work of Latin Link.

  • Knowledge of internet streaming and social media in order to engage with those who do not attend the church.

  • Actively engaged in continuing personal development: learning through participation in professional development opportunities as well as from experience and feedback

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (including current versions of Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel software) and the web

  • Trustworthy, diplomatic and able to keep confidentiality

  • Willing to raise financial resources for Latin Link (support for this will be provided by the Development and Communications Department).

Responsible to: Stuart Oliphant, Latin Partners Coordinator
Responsible for: Local Church workers/volunteers
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Dependent upon relevant experience.
The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period after which there is a three calendar months’ written notice period for both parties.
This role is for at least 30 hours per week spread flexibly, according to the requirements of the role, over five or six days.
Holiday entitlement is 31 working days per year, to include public holidays.
